The Hanes Park Classic is a premiere professional cycling criterium that has been held annually in Winston-Salem since 1977. A criterium is a fast-paced, multi-lap bike race held on a short course, which allows for high excitement and high visibility for spectators. This event has become one of the highlights of North Carolina’a cycling scene and boasts numerous World and National Champions as past victors. Spectatorship has consistently grown over the years. Last year we reached our highest turnout ever with more than 3,000 spectators throughout the day-long event. Cycling participants also have continued to grow, with nearly 800 individuals riding in 2007. It is part of USA Cycling’s National Race Calendar (NRC), a high honor in the cycling world, and the final race of a series of races called the Crossroads Cycling Classic.
The Hanes Park Classic is a full day of outdoor fun, physical activity, and entertainment. In addition to the professional race, it includes bicycle races for all ages and abilities, a Community Fun Ride around Winston-Salem, a Kids Bike Race, a Kids Bike Rodeo, a Family 1-mile Fun Run, the Hanes Park Classic 5K Run, a Kids Zone and exciting activities for the whole family to enjoy!
The Pro 1 Race features 150 of the cycling world’s finest competitors and teams. The professional race is the main event of the Hanes Park Classic, creating tremendous energy and anticipation. With a Prize Purse of $15,000, teams such as TIME Pro Cycling, AEG-Toshiba, Hincapie Sportswear, Bianchi, and Colavita Olive Oil/Sutter Home battle it out to the finish.
With spectators and participants from around the world, the Hanes Park Classic is a world class annual professional sporting event right here in our own backyard. Combined with its “family-friendly” events and activities, the Hanes Park Classic is a unique community event and a prime sponsorship opportunity for your company.
The Hanes Park Classic incorporates all of CycleSafe.org’s philosophies into one signature event that engages all members of our community. This event has become a model for integrating safety education and community outreach into a professional cycling event.
